Sugar Free Flavoured Water

Flavoured water 1

Have you ever wondered why some of us put lemon in our water?  Just for the flavour?  There is a lot more to it than to flavour the water.  In Hong Kong, a cup of warm water with a slice of lemon and some honey is our staple drink.  It gives you a real boost of vitamin C and it helps flush out toxins if you drink it in the morning.

Lemon is an excellent partner to water, but there are a lot more fruits, vegetable and herbs which we can put into water to jazz it up a bit.  Homemade flavoured water is perfect for those who think plain water is boring or for those who live on fizzy drinks. The flavoured water I make is 100% natural, no added sugar or colouring.  This would make an ideal drink if you are looking to wean yourself off sugary drinks.  I think it looks colourful and healthy, I especially love it after working in the Patch on a hot summer day.

Here are some of the fruits, vegetable and herbs I usually use in my flavoured water:-

Fruits and vegetable:-
Fresh Mint
Lemon Balm

Here are a couple of flavoured water drinks I have just made using fruit from the fruit bowl in the kitchen.

Flavoured water 2

The jar on the left contains:-

  • Half Orange (diced)
  • Half Lemon (sliced)
  • Half Kiwi (sliced)

The jar on the right contains:-

  • 3 Strawberries (sliced and diced randomly)
  • 2 inches of Cucumber (sliced)
  • Half Kiwi (sliced)
  • Small bunch of Lemon Balm

Don’t forget to give them a good squeeze and leave the water for half an hour to let the flavour infuse into the water.
